Le Roc is a French jive also known as modern jive. In the late 60's, when the British and Americans stopped rocking and rolling and started twisting, the French carried on and developed their own style of jive. It was brought to the UK in the early 80's and arrived in Bristol in 1985. It has become increasingly popular over subsequent years and is now a nationally recognised dance. It is very easy to learn and can be danced to most types of music, from current chart through to swing and rock and roll.

Le Roc is a partner dance. However, you do not have to come along with a partner, you can come alone or with a friend. During the lesson we continually move everyone around, so you are constantly changing partners anyway. There are three reasons for this. Firstly, we want to encourage everyone to come along, not just couples, as there is usually an imbalance of men to women and moving everyone around ensures you all have a dance. Secondly, you will learn the moves quicker if you are dancing with people better than you. Thirdly, changing partners means it is more sociable and everyone gets to know one another very quickly.
